Name/Word

Description: Name – Size: 8.5” x 11” or optional. Create outlines from type and place on background, and then develop an illustration. Use foreground and background. Consider formal elements of art such as; line, shape, form, color, texture, rhythm, etc. Plan your composition and subject matter. Fall back on personal hobbies if nothing comes to mind. Brainstorm on paper if necessary. Name/Word project and collect resources such as a typeface or two. You are permitted to use a word instead of your name. The piece must contain a word typed using a font (you will edit the typeface, but please consider starting with an existing typeface and not creating your own). You will develop your project by creating shapes with the pen tool and choosing colored fills and strokes as well as other techniques. Before producing this project it is suggested you sketch out your ideas or even produce a tradition drawing on paper to plan your design. Even before that comprehensive layout, I suggest you begin by creating three quick thumbnails of ideas as a starting point and only after those roughs that you move on to produce one detailed draft/comp to plan this next project. This assignment is done in Adobe illustrator. He wants the font that is chosen to be a downloaded one so it can't be one that's already on the typekit list. It is important to focus on illustration and using the pen tool. It's not about the type it's about the illustration. These are examples of links he showed us in class.
